Since I have not implemented generation of mipmaps on the GPU for imported textures, the only filtering options I have available are nearest and linear. For this image linear filtering is the best option, since it reduces the flickering of noisy areas (mountain ranges) the most, but it is still visible. The image is high enough resolution that it is not blurry.

Optimally, I would have chosen linear mipmap nearest filtering, since precomputing a more fitting resolution would eliminate flickering, and nearest would likely be better than linear to reduce blurriness in a lower resolution texture.
